Our move to Redesdale in central Victoria didn’t happen overnight. Our inspiration to buy some land came from spending some wonderful weekends at a friend’s farm in Mansfield, Victoria. Originally from inner Melbourne, we purchased the Redesdale property in 2002 as a vacant block of land. Somewhere to camp, toast marshmallows and ride bikes and escape the bustle of the city. We commenced building a shed, and then moved onto a house. Our love affair with the land had started and we were staying. We have since planted 5,000 walnut trees, 1,500 vines, over an acre of vegetables and 2 acres of fruit trees! Add to this 50 chickens, 100 sheep and one sheep dog. We had no intention of returning to the city!!
We love everything about country living: the people and the lifestyle. Most of our friends are like-minded people who have a strong connection to the land. Many produce their own poultry, beef, lamb and pork, while others make exceptional wines and ciders. Our neighbours have become our friends, and when we all get together, you can be sure of an amazing feast of locally-grown produce.
